This was the case of high officials of the victorious camp such as Eisenhower (Crusade in Europe, 500 p, 1948, ), Churchill (Memoirs on the Second World War, 1948-53, 4736 pages) and De Gaulle (Memoirs of War, 54-59, 1518 pages), as well as of independent bodies such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which had indeed had free access to Auschwitz during the war, or the Vatican; A historian like René Rémond, given his specialty, should have mentioned these gas chambers but had refrained from doing so. Tel a été le cas aussi bien de hauts responsables du camp des vainqueurs comme Eisenhower (Croisade en Europe, 500 p, 1948, ), Churchill (Mémoires sur la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, 1948-53, 4736 pages) et De Gaulle (Mémoires de Guerre, 54-59, 1518 pages) que d’instances indépendantes comme le Comité international de la Croix-Rouge (CICR), lequel avait bel et bien eu libre accès pendant la guerre à Auschwitz, ou comme le Vatican ; un historien comme René Rémond, vu sa spécialité, aurait dû mentionner ces chambres à gaz mais s’était abstenu de le faire. J’allais découvrir tout au long de nos entretiens son profond scepticisme en la matière. »
